Dementia Singing Sessions

SongTime are excited to share that The National Lottery Fund has awarded them funding to run dementia friendly singing sessions at St Peters Centre in Mansfield every Monday from 2pm to 3.45 for the next two years. The sessions are back this month and are open to anyone, including residents of care homes that might enjoy singing and having fun whilst making new friends. Local Book Club

If you love books this is for you. It will be taking place now on the 2nd Tuesday of every month going forward. The next one takes place on September 9th at Poffles which is situated at 94A High Street in Mansfield Woodhouse

Rainworth Veteran’s Breakfast Club

Calling all veterans and families, including serving personnel to come along to ‘The Venue’ Kirklington Road, Rainworth NG21 0JR. New Coffee Morning

New coffee morning taking place at Trinity Methodist Church High Street Mansfield Woodhouse. Saturday September 13th . It’s called the cost teapot. There will be a tombola, and raffle. Tea, coffee biscuits and toasted tea cakes.

 

Donations Needed

The PDSA charity shop on Low Street in Sutton are in desperate need of donations. Their drop off point is Service yard B across from the Lloyds Bank. They are looking for all donations. COMING SOON

Staveley community fundraising evening to celebrate local singer-songwriter’s life and music SATURDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2025 – 6.30 PM

A special community fundraising event is due to be held on Saturday 20 September 2025 from 6.30 pm at the Speedwell Rooms, Staveley in memory of local singer-songwriter Kara Jane Spencer. Kara Jane’s wish was to raise £100,000 for The ME Association to support research into the condition, and proceeds raised from the event along with sales of her two albums will be donated to the charity. The line-up includes Derbyshire-based women’s choir, Local Vocals, who will be performing a beautiful set of songs including a song from Kara’s first album. Additionally, Emily Louise, Kara Jane’s sister will be performing vocals from both the debut album ‘It’s Still M.E’ and the posthumous album ‘In Limbo’ which was released last month on Severe ME Day. Tickets are just £20 including food, and are available online (https://www.ticketebo.co.uk/karajanesingscom/kara-jane-fundraiser). There will also be a raffle and an auction of Kara Jane’s paintings, along with an opportunity to purchase Kara Jane’s albums and merchandise which features her inspiring artwork.

Wired Differently Festival 2025

Taking place on September 21st at Portland College. They'll be mascots, donkeys, music, activities, stalls and more stalls, information stands, food, drink, carnival vibes, choir performances, sensory play, quiet areas, meditaion space, a disco, a reflective space in the woodland, woodcraft, silks and hoops, stilt walking, therapy dogs, tombola, hook a duck, nerf game, inflatable football darts, education, neon party tent, ziplining, inflatables, woodland treasure hunt, inflatables... FREE ENTRY and a small charge for only a handful of the activities with lots to do for no fee!!!

This event is not just for neurodivergents. Absolutely everybody is welcome.

 

New WI in Pleasley Village.

Meetings going forward will take place on the last Thursday of each month at The Verney Institute Newboundmill Lane Pleasley

at 1:30pm. The new WI is for people living in the villages of Pleasley, New Houghton and Glapwell. (Thursday September 25th)

Jack Of All Hearts Brain Cancer fundraising shop at 10 Handley Arcade in Mansfield has lots of stock on offer from ladies and mens clothes, to Nemesis Now goods and bric-a-brac. Poffles Chatty Cafe Scheme. THE TIME HAS CHANGED FROM SEPT 12th

The Chatter and Natter table is a wonderful way to encourage people to talk to others and will be hosted by a friendly volunteer at Poffles every Friday going forward between 2pm and 3:30pm. Come and join your local Male Voice Choir in 2025

Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir celebrated its 80th anniversary year in 2024 with 25 events during the year including appearing at the Royal Albert Hall and Southwell Minster. As they go into 2025, they learn new repertoire and now is the time for new members to come and join the choir.

Advice Session for residents

There is going to be a weekly session to help residents around finances, benefits and support filling in forms from Derbyshire Unemployment Workers Centre, The session is going to be taking place at the community hub in New Houghton on Thursdays 9:30 – 11:30

 

The Run Free Collective

The Run Free Collective are a local community of running group made up of all local run clubs that meet up the 1st Monday of Each Month at Sherwood Pines to run the 5k Trail:

Bereavement Cafe at Mansfield Crematorium (running on the first Monday of each month going forward)

Monday October 6th 10-12pm in the  flower hall, the vestibule and the main chapel, as well as the grounds. It's a chance for those who want a space to chat to talk to people who have lost someone to have somewhere to have a chat, a cuppa and a cake with people who are going through something similar. Local celebrants and crematorium staff will be on hand for a chat and to signpost people  to different charities and organisations for any professional support they might need. There will also be an additional Bereavement Cafe going forward. This one will be on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the South Mansfield Community Centre, next door to St Peter's CofE Primary Academy. It will be between 10 and 12pm, free to attend and tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided.

 

Lots of things happening in Pleasley.

Pleasley is supported by so many groups who work hard to make the village a place to be proud of. Please share - all welcome to join us. 

 

  • Tuesdays 10-11am at Stacey Road community centre we have Men’s Talk. A small group where men meet, share stories and enjoy breakfast. 

     

  • Tuesdays 10-12pm Stacey Hall Group on Stacey Road provide a coffee morning. A place to make new friends and of course at 11am bingo is included. 

     

  • Tuesdays 12-2pm at Stacey Road community centre we hold Pleasley Poppy Group who are always busy preparing for the next village event and display. 

     

  • Thursday- the last Thursday of each month is the new Pleasley Nightingales WI. They meet at 1.30-3.30pm. Providing a safe place to meet new friends and get involved with interesting topics. On our first year we came 3rd in  The Pleasley Scarecrow Festival with our Florence Nightingale scarecrow. 

     

  • Saturday - the first Saturday of each month The Riverside group meet at 9.30-11am at the bridge in Meden Square to tidy up the riverside picnic area. We have created a tranquil space for families to sit, picnic and watch nature at its best.
